We have all played Board games, whether its the popular ones like Monopoly,Risk,Don't cry baby, Connect 4,CAH or Unpopular ones like DnD,Infection,Plaque Inc or many others. We can all agree they are a blast of a time to play with friends(also friendship ruiners). But what happens when you play with an AI ? Well first of all ,the game has to have some luck involved,or a strategy (a dice roll). Otherwise the AI,to play optimally ,would win every time. Ofcourse this is not the case for each board game, some require more thought, and others the AI can have weak points build into it(although that would ruin the point of AI). The AI in board games is facing multiple difficulties : -How would it act depending on how many players are participating ? A good example is The Risk computer game ,which involves AI players as well as real ones. The computer has predetermined Heuristical targets, depending on his own strength, strengths of territories on the way,and whether the AI is pressured from another player. -How gameplay would affect it A great example is every board game with a dice. The AI has to make the most beneficial decision based on the dice roll (of course other factors as resources act in,but the dice is the biggest one) -Would it be fun. The biggest problem AI runs into is,whether it would be fun to play with or against. The AI needs to hit a soft spot, between unfair and too easy to manipulate. An easy way to go around this, and how many strategy games have gone around it. Give the AI a boost ,whether its more resources or higher die roll. The AI needs a boost to be a challenge.
